Team Leader/Managers

Congratulations!   Your staff now has access to a full University of training programs for the modern office.   From Microsoft Word and Excel to utilizing OneDrive and Microsoft Forms, your employees' now have access to unprecedented learning opportunities.

This page will help you as a manager better understand SmartPath's Bigger Brains and how to manage your team for success.

Common Terms to Know

  • Classroom: This is BrainStation, the online web portal where Bigger Brains courses can be accessed and is also known as the “new classroom” to distinguish it from Bigger Brains’ older online classroom, which was a third-party product called Litmos. It is also sometimes called our “mini-LMS” because it has many of the features of a full Learning Management System.
  • Learner: The Learner is the user who has an account to log in to the Bigger Brains online classroom in order to take the training courses.
  • Member: A Learner and/or Team Leader in the system.
  • Team: Learners are organized into Teams, which generally represent one organization.  Your team is typically your company.
  • Team Leaders: If you are looking at this page, this is you.  :)  A member who can run reports, manage learners, assign courses to learners, and create custom content. Team Leaders are connected to one Team, but each Team can have multiple Team Leaders. For Teams which are not managed by a Reseller, the Team Leader can also purchase licenses and manage billing for their learners.
  • Teams App: All Bigger Brains courses are also available inside Microsoft Teams, using the Bigger Brains eLearning app in the Teams app store. Any progress made on courses in Microsoft Teams will be reflected in courses in BrainStation and vice versa.
  • User: A User is another name for Learner, or someone who has an account to log in to the Bigger Brains online classroom to take training courses.

As a team leader, you have access both as a learner, so you can take courses yourself and also as a Team Leader, so you can assign courses to other staff members.

That which is recorded improved; that which is recorded and reported on improves exponentially.

In the SmartPath's Bigger Brains BrainStation experience, your My Courses page looks almost identical whether you are a Team Leader or a Learner. The only difference is the Report button on the Learner view is replaced with the Team Leader button on the Team Leader view.

You will then see the first page of the Team Leader Dashboard, the Report page, which is a dashboard showing various metrics of courses for your team. At the top, you will see the number of Active Learners, Total Courses in progress, total Time Spent on Learning, and buttons to display Course Report and Learner Report.

This page also provides various charts depicting Top Trending Courses Last 30 Days, User Access Last 30 Days, Top 10 Learners based on Time Spent, Time Spent in Last 30 Days, and Attempted vs. Not Attempted Courses.

Team Leader Reporting

From your team leader dashboard, select Course Report to view a list of all courses.

At the next screen, click on view to report details for any particular course that your users may be assigned to.

From the next screen, The Access Report details which learners have attempted/completed the course. Select view on the Access Report to see details for a learner for the specific course.

You will then be taken to the Course Access Report for a specific staff member/learner.

Learner Self Reporting

It's valuable for your staff members and learners to track their own progress.

Learners can view a Report on their own activity by clicking their Report menu.

The Learner will then see a list of their courses and can click on view to see details of a specific course.

Assigning Courses to your learners

There are two methods utilized to assign your learners courses you want them to complete: Course Path's and Individual Courses.

  1. Course Path's Course Path's are groups of courses that the learner completes in sequential order.  For example, a current course path is Microsoft 365 Basics.  This course path includes 9 courses regarding multiple aspects of Microsoft 365.  We carefully design course paths in a way that is logical and makes sense.  We can work with you to create custom course path's for your staff.   2. Individual Courses You are able to assign your learners specific courses from our course catalog in combination with course path's or as a standalone course.   This gives you the ability to customize which courses each person is assigned.
